Caberfeidh (pronounced cab-er-fay) is the Gaelic for ‘deer antler’ and was the war cry of the Clan Mackenzie and the name of my Grandparents house in the West Highlands of Scotland. It is a large, luxurious, detached house surrounded by the stunning beaches and the wild countryside of West Harris – wonderful sea views, magnificent sunsets, mountains on one side and a 2.5-mile beach on the other. 15 minutes from Tarbert and just over an hour from Stornoway – it is an ideal base from which to explore the delights of Harris.
Caberfeidh is fitted out to a very high standard throughout and features great interior design. There is a range of art on the walls, most representing local scenes. There is an extensive collection of videos, DVD’s, books and games, and the full Sky TV package – so you need not worry about the odd rainy day. At 2000 square feet, there’s room for everyone to have their own space – yet the living and sleeping areas still have a cosy feel.
You have an enormous variety of wildlife, literally on the doorstep. A corncrake is an annual visitor to the area just behind the house. Golden eagles and buzzards soar in front. And you will see all manner of water birds and geese on the beach behind the house, which is an Area of Special Scientific Interest. Caberfeidh is an excellent base for walking, whether you want to scale a mountain or go for an after-dinner stroll – just open the front door and off you go. It is also great for cycling, beachcombing, picnics, photography, fishing, and just being lazy. If you are into golf, there is a nine-hole course just 4 miles down the coast.
Whether you are a couple looking for a luxury break, a family in search of a memorable holiday, or a group looking for the ideal place to get together, ‘Caberfeidh’ will exceed your expectations. Once you’ve been hooked, you will want to return year after year. Download our brochure now.

The spacious living accommodation is situated on the ground floor: an entrance hall; a large lounge dining room, a family kitchen with utility room, and a downstairs loo. There are slate and laminate floors throughout, making Caberfeidh a really practical house to live in – Afghan rugs provide that little bit of extra comfort and luxury. Large windows flood the house with light and provide breathtaking views whichever way you care to look. The view over the beach from the kitchen window is so spectacular that it will be a race to see who clears up after a meal! There is a high level of equipment throughout – you should have pretty well everything you need for a great stay.

There are four bedrooms, the family bathroom, and a small den upstairs. The Lilac Room is a romantic king-size bedroom with ensuite shower room. The Aqua Room is a generous king-size bedroom with stunning views over the sand to the Island of Taransay. The Blue room is a cosy double bedroom with an ensuite shower room. And the Red Room is a striking single room with a Velux window directly above the bed –you can lie back at night and watch the stars move through the sky. There are luxurious carpets throughout the living areas on the first floor. The den is a comfortable little room for watching a video, reading a book, or just getting some quiet time.
